MEMBER BENEFITS

Your Membership Agreement allows you to focus on using your creativity, and not on collecting royalties for event where your work is played. This is where our organisation works for you.

COTT’s role is to licence music users for the broadcasting, public performance and recording of music in Trinidad and Tobago, to collect license fees or royalties and to distribute royalties to its members and foreign copyright owners.

COTT Members

COTT has over 3700 members comprising, Songwriters, Music Composers, Authors of lyrics or words that have been set to music, Music Publishers, Successors (beneficiaries of deceased members)

Membership Criteria

COTT provides two types of membership.

  • Songwriters, composers and lyricists must have a work that has been broadcast, performed live, played in public or recorded.
  • Publishers must have contracts covering at least 5 works.

Membership Joining Fees

Songwriters, composers and lyricists are required to pay a one-off fee of $150. Publishers are required to pay a one-off fee of $750.There is no annual membership fee

Member Benefits

  • Efficient payment for your works that generate royalties 4 times per year through public performance, broadcast, communication and recordings in Trinidad & Tobago and overseas.
  • Detailed statements of royalties paid.
  • Royalties credited to a designated bank account.
  • Registration of works and agreements.
  • Referral to legal services.
  • COTT investigates the commission of criminal offences against members’ copyrights, working closely with the police and customs.
  • When a COTT member dies his spouse, child, relative, next of kin or beneficiary under a will can apply for Membership. This successor member can collect royalties up to 50 years after the death of the COTT member.
  • Attendance at copyright and songwriting seminars and workshops hosted by COTT.
  • Receipt of COTT’s quarterly newsletter.
